10th Series – Water Quad

18 Dogs Started the 10th series. 


We kicked off the10th series this morning with the parade of contestants. After we were all in place, the running of the test dogs started at 8:08 am. The first test dog to run was "Jake" with handler Michelle Visel and then next up was "Boogie" with handler Suzan Caire, giving the teams a preview of the challenges they would be facing in this large Water Quad.

The first running dog on for the 10th Series was #72. FC REDGATE’S COALFIRED YETI, “Yeti,” BLF, with handler Chris Ledford at 8:44 am.

The weather today started our test this morning at 63 degrees with overcast skies and a light 7 mph wind. As the day went on, we warmed up a bit, but conditions stayed mostly the same.

Here is how things turned out for the 10th Series …

There were 18 dogs sent from the line in this series, taking exactly 4 hours and 56 minutes, which averages out to be just under 16.5 minutes per dog. 

The running of the 2024 National Retriever Championship is now complete.

RR – Angled down the hillside - she went left of the broom grass - crossed the channel and went beyond the shoreline to a make a couple circles right before moving on to the bird.

RF – Up the hill - arrived under the arc - bent right and did a couple loops working out to the bush and then she located her bird.

MR – Into the water - she moved left but the wind was pushing her right - she exited the pond and jumped left - then she went up the hill and was handled to this bird.

LF – Out deep - turned in to her bird.

RR – Drove across the road - through the broom sage - out at the blind for a big swing right and then she got her bird.

RF – Wide left going out across the field - started a right angle in the water - came up in front of the guns - deep into the broom sage - took a strong right through the sage and straight to her bird.

MR – Right fo the boat - over near the point - angled towards the island - skimmed the left corner - got out and headed straight for her bird. Got it!

LF – Into the area - ran about 4 large circles to isolate and locate his bird.

RR – Entered the area under the arc - she turned right - ran down the shore and got her bird!

RF – Her line carried her along the right side of the point - at the shore she pulled left towards the gunners as she drove the hill - came in under the arc and she turned right - made a couple loops and she had her bird.

MR – Ivy is launched but pulled right - in the water she headed for the right of the island - and she was handled - she moved over and required more whistles but completed the test and got the bird.

RF – Across the pond on the left side of the point - he drove the hill - coming in under the arc - he moved right - a couple tight loops and he had his bird.

MR – Good line across the pond - exited the water and drove left of the broom grass  - he continued to drive the hill until he was quite deep - he was handled back to this bird.

LF – Hunted deep for a turn and then came in for her bird.

RR – Flew across the field - through the sage brush - into the pond and up by the blind - worked it out and got to her bird.

RF – Across the field and through the pond - excellent line to this bird and she pounced on it!

MR – Out across the field - in the water and onto the island - crossed to the far shore - handled while she was still in the water - lost sight with multiple whistles - she came back to the pond  and near the shore - handled back across the pond and to the bird.

RR – Anxious to get underway! He headed out on a good line for his bird and he's got it!

RF – Torq is pretty dialed in at this point!  he crossed the pond and drove the hill - gently curved his line left to come up on his short bird.

MR – Came in wide left - drove the hillside arriving left - worked his way right and he located his bird. Beautiful!

LF – Out just deep - a quick turn in and she got her bird

RF – Angled across the field  - hit the shore and turned left instead of right - circled the blind and then went right and got it!

RR – Across the field - off the point for a very long flyer - up under the arc - she turned right into the broom sage - back into the light grass - has not gone far enough away from the guns yet - had a spurt of energy and got almost to the road and located her bird.

MR – Out to the right of the dead tree - almost to the fall area and then turned away from the bird - back to the blind and we next saw her behind the flyer guns - handler started to handle her back to her bird ... and her retirement. Well done Jenny!

LF – Short flyer - Tim ran deep, but recovered well and got the bird.

RR – Angled across the road - through the broom sage and into the pond - found the guns - moved right along the shore and to his bird.

RF – Took a left line into the pond - swam towards the guns - out of the water he started to move right - ran the field in front of the guns and straight to the broom sage - hunted left and then right and then he got the bird.

MR – Nice angle to the line he took into the water - wind picked up and pushed him right - started to adjust as he got closer to the shore - drove straight through the broom sage and drove past the fall area - a whistle and he was handled back to the bird.
